On the borders of the Florentine Republic in 1450 AD, tower houses were used to control the territory adjacent to Siena. Their role was important, as each served not only as home to the farmer and shelter for workers, but also as a strong defense against enemies.

Casi di Sotto, situated on a 360° vantage point, was one of six such towers in its' sweeping valley. It is believed that the four-story tower was dismantled after 1555, when, after more than three centuries of war, Florence annexed Siena. The resulting two-story “casa colonica” style home was expanded to better serve living and rural needs.

Approached through a majestic cypress alley with Chianti's vineyards on all sides, Casi di Sotto was lovingly restored in 2006. The home was originally constructed of local stone. Rich architectural details such as the vaulted ceilings, terra cotta roofing and floor tiles, wooden doors, interior shutters and wood plank flooring were preserved in the restoration. Fully furnished and decorated, accented with marble, tile, Florentine paintwork and local art, the home is simply stunning. Luxurious, inviting, welcoming.

The grounds (approximately .5 hectare) are being updated as a part of the planned improvements… to include a swimming pool, parking and landscaping to make optimal use of the dramatic views and topography.
